I’m living my life with a new purpose.
It’s a really great one, and I would ask you to join me, if you think you’re up for it. It’s actually quite simple.
Romans 12:1-2
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
This idea is something else. That worship is defined by Paul as a living sacrifice (sacrifice being offered up on the altar, slain, dead, bloody, sweet smelling to God). Then he explains himself. He tells us how this is accomplished: don’t conform to the world, but be transformed by the renewal of our mind. How does our mind become renewed? Oh man, now it’s getting good. Our minds are renewed daily through Scripture devotion! DUH! It’s not difficult. We offer our lives as a sacrifice, but not a dead one, a living one, which includes the renewal of our minds. That, to me, sounds pretty good. I love to just sit and vege and relax. Paul says that this happens when we go through Scripture, and there’s more. By testing, we discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. THIS LIFE IS NOT A GUESSING GAME! We have been allowed to see and hear and perceive and understand!
So that’s the life I’m trying to live. By the grace of God I’m making it so far, but I’m sure that the closer I draw to God, the more the devil will try to stop me. I find rest in the Scriptures.
James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
